How Ina Kapatid Anak became a testament of Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador’s professionalism

Ina Kapatid Anak goes down in history as one of the most celebrated shows of Dreamscape Entertainment. This claim remains true owed mainly to the high reception it received over the successful interplay of rivalry between the leads, Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador.

True enough, many people still remember some of its iconic scenes even up to this day—especially the debut scene and heated confrontation between Celyn (Kim Chiu) and Margaux (Maja Salvador).

The Rewined Podcast reeled back to that climactic moment with creative writer Danica Domingo, at the time when Ina Kapatid Anak was reaching the peak of its rivalry plot, an issue broke out claiming that Kim and Maja were not on good terms.

However, despite dealing with their issue while doing Ina Kapatid Anak, Kim and Maja remained professional while fulfilling their roles.

One attestation of this is the much-awaited reconciliation between Celyn and Margaux, which Danica says is solid proof of how Kim and Maja professionally handled the situation while still respecting the demands of the series.

Danica says, “Feeling ko naman, testament yun kung gaano kagaling na artista si Maja at si Kim. Kasi, [we want] that finale to be that heartwarming. Tapos, kung tama ang alala ko, may pinagdadaanan pa sila niyan.

“Sana, in a way, yung mga sinabi dun sa teleserye helped them into their journey sa healing nilang pareho. Kasi at the end of the day, itong rivalry na ‘to, itong lahat ng pinag awayan natin, wouldn’t matter years from now.

“So, di ba, paano nila naarte yung meron silang pinagdadaanan, maintindihan mo rin how they love their craft—na tinapos talaga nila.”

Ina Kapatid Anak plot twist: Celyn and Margaux as twins

Ina Kapatid Anak refresher: the series is about the intertwined lives of Celyn and Margaux, which started when married couple Beatrice (Janice de Belen) and Julio (Ariel Rivera) hired Beatrice’s sister, Teresa (Cherry Pie Picache) as a surrogate mother.

However, Teresa decides to leave and raise the child as her own, which she named Celyn. Later, Beatrice and Julio adopted Margaux.

But of course, they would all later cross paths when Celyn and Margaux became classmates and best friends, and later, rivals. Intensifying their rivalry was finding out that Celyn was the missing daughter of Beatrice and Julio.

Later, it was revealed that Margaux was actually a legitimate Maragisan, and that she is Celyn’s biological twin.

As Danica mentioned, it was the plot they were going for—highlighting that the story was explicitly designed with thematic nuances of sisterhood.

Danica shares, “Kasi kambal pala sila! Iba yun sa magkapatid [lang] ha. ‘Galing lang pala tayo sa iisang matres.’ Alam mo yun.”

This kind of symbolism has also made its way to other conflicts in the story—creating a richer and in-depth motivation between Celyn and Margaux’s rivalry.

Danica continues, “Siyempre, yung mga struggles nila as characters, yung paano ba sila ifa-fashion in such a way na hindi sila magbabati pero mag-iiba yung [playing field].

“Kaya kung maalala mo, kung tama ang alala ko, yan na yung pumapasok sila sa Memorata, yun company na yung pinag-aagawan nila.

“Iniiba namin yung battleground tapos nag-iiba din yung ano… hindi na lang ito issue ng sino ang mas mahal ni mama at papa. Iba na ‘to, more on self na, kung sino yung karapat-dapat.”

Encapsulating the essence of this plot twist and familial struggle was the big confrontation scene between the Marasigans, and Margaux revealing to everyone the truth.

According to Danica, writing this scene posed a challenge, especially because it demanded all the characters to display their distinct reaction to the conflict they were dealing with.

She says, “They’re coming from different points of view, so parang yun yung mahirap kasi sa isang malaking confrontation na ensemble, kailangan nasasabi nila yung point nila na galing sa kanila—sa kung ano ang pinanggalingan nila within that issue.”
