Filipino talent can never be underestimated. The excellence innate in our bloodlines runs strong, and there are just too many impressive acts that the rest of the world still needs to see from our pool of talented individuals. 

Giving a larger avenue for these must-see acts, ABS-CBN has brought back its talent competition Pilipinas Got Talent—putting the spotlight not only on the contestants but also on the fun moments that come out of every audition. 

With Kathryn Bernardo, Donny Pangilinan, Eugene Domingo, and Freddie M. Garcia (FMG) as members of the panel, audiences are sure in for a lot of chemistry and fun—not to mention Melai Cantiveros and Robi Domingo making every episode even more exciting. 

Here, REWINED lists down some of the humorous and cute moments of the panel and the contestants that highlight what it truly means to be Filipino— talented, goofy, carefree, and entertaining at best.

Jump rope challenge

The April 7 airing of PGT is full of unexpected surprises—one of which was Donny, Kathryn, Eugene, Robi, and Melai giving in to the jump rope challenge. While they are at it, some audience members even cheered for FMG to try it out too, but he’s ripe at his age—so let’s just let him be as his younger constituents get chaotic in the best way possible on stage.

Unexpected kilig

Everyone can’t help but blush when given a surprising pick-up line. Who wouldn’t, right? This is exactly what happened to Eugene when a contestant named Pedro came a little too bravely when Eugene greeted him, “Magandang gabi sa ‘yo.” In response, the auditionee said, “Mas maganda pa po kayo sa gabi,” sending Eugene and everyone into kilig—including Kathryn and Donny. 

Crush Reveal

Have you ever wondered who Kathryn’s first crush was? Or Donny’s, maybe? Well, you’re in for a secret as they all gathered backstage with the rest of the gang to reminisce about their first crushes.

For the girls, Eugene initiated by saying that her first crush kind of looked like Jericho Rosales—resembling the typical Pinoy man. Melai, on the other hand, shared that her crush used to frequent their sari-sari store, while Kathryn dropped hints that hers was “mestizo” named Kenneth, who has been hunted on social media by netizens!

On the boys’ side, the exposé is just as interesting, with Robi saying Shaina Magdayao—his then-neighbor—was his first crush. FMG looked back on his crush named “Baby,” whom she described as “fair and has nice eyes.” Then, for Donny, it seems like she has an international taste, saying that Padme of Star Wars—played by Natalie Portman—was his first crush.

In PGT, it’s not only the talents and laughs that get to be the highlight; they’ve got muscles up there onstage as well! Setting the set in a steamy show-off of biceps, Robi and Donny agreed to try the pull-up bar while only wearing their white tank tops, as inspired by contestant named Lolo Roger. And as expected, the audience seemed to be having a good time. 

Donny’s card trick

Donny is just one of the most promising personalities in television, having to wear so many hats even before his rise to stardom. But who would have believed that behind all that makes Donny the well-loved actor he is, being a magician is one aspect that is far less known about him? Now see him shuffle this deck of cards with a little bit of magic. 

Failed pagpag audition

It surely is disheartening to hear the red buzzer go off, but this is not the case for Jaja, who just showed off her “pagpag” audition in front of her celebrity crush. Getting four nos from the judges may seem a bit demoralizing, but at least, according to her, Donny Pangilinan was there to see her fail. So, it isn’t as bad as it looks, after all.

Crushing it, literally!

The beauty of PGT lies not only in the excellent performances, but also in the acts that sometimes give a good laugh rather than being outstanding at all. Case in point, Jaymar Dilanco made a performance by crushing objects using his pointed chin. Though he did not get the panel’s approval to carry on to the next round, he will surely carry home the smiles and laughter he got from everyone watching.
