Here’s how the new generation of Sang’gres aim to inspire the fans

It’s been 20 years since GMA opened the portal to the magical world of Encantadia. After its successful debut in 2005 and the equally celebrated remake in 2016, a new generation of Sang’gres are finally taking over the elemental gems.

The highly anticipated spin-off, Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre is set to air on June 16, 2025—with Bianca Umali, Faith da Silva, Angel Guardian, and Kelvin Miranda taking the banner as the new Sang’gres.

Two years in preparation, the leads are now more than ready to continue the legacy of the debut and sophomore Encantadia installments. But beyond the usual world-building that Encantadia is known for, the spin-off is taking it further by leaving an encompassing message for the fans.

During the media conference held on June 7, 2025, Angel—who will take on the role of Deia the keeper of Air Gem—was asked what value she wanted to impart to the audiences.

Just like a gust of wind, Angel answers rather poetically and with conviction. She says, “Sa’kin siguro… that strength doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it’s quiet or sometimes it doubts or sometimes it forgives. It’s choosing to stand in the storm without losing yourself.”

She then likened her character to these traits, saying that just like Deia, her strength comes from within.

As for Kelvin who will play as Adamus the keeper of the Water Gem, his message evokes a sense of depth to it.

The weight of being a Sang’gre

“Napakalaking obligasyon,” this is how Faith sees her duty as a Sang’gre. And such feeling blazed through her as she is entrusted to take on the  role of Flammara, the flame keeper.

The first iteration of the character was Pirena, iconically portrayed by Sunshine Dizon in 2005 and Glaiza de Castro in 2016.

Despite the daunting duty to live up to the expectations, Faith shares that she draws inspiration from the “OG Sang’gres,” whom she always seeks advice from whenever pressure tends to be a little overwhelming.

She shares, “Yung nakatulong talaga sa akin para hindi ramdamin nang todo-todo yung pressure ay ang mga basbas ng ating mga OG Sang’gre.

“Si ate Glaiza talaga yang kinausap ko dahil I really let her know na, coming into the show, I was really pressured because nga napakalaking obligasyon dahil ang hirap sundan ng Ada Pirena at ng mga naunang Pirena. Ngunit si Sang’gre Flamarra, anak siya ni Pirena at ni Azulan so,  ibang tapang ito, ibang apoy ito.”

Another thing that alleviated Faith out of taxing demands of the role was the camaraderie she shared with the rest of the Sang’gres. As she puts it, “There’s no competition sa aming apat po, at lahat kami ay naniniwala na magsha-shine kami sa kanya-kanya naming element.”

Bianca, who will play as Terra—the Earth Gem keeper, seconds Faith in her stance, saying that being one of the leads is “Hindi biro.”

She expounds, “We cannot emphasize more that it was two years of our lives creating this show. And time before that, [we started] training even before the project was announced to us.

“To train for this means sacrificing not just everything around us but ourselves. We sacrificed the things that we wanted to do. We sacrificed the time with our loved ones. We sacrificed dreams that we put on hold dahil gusto naming ibigay lahat ng atensyon, pagod at oras sa proyekto na ito.”

Under the helm of directors Rico Gutierrez and Enzo Williams, the highly anticipated series gets even better with the return of the 2016 leads. Kylie Padilla (Amihan), Glaiza de Castro (Pirena), Sanya Lopez (Danaya), and Gabbi Garcia (Alena) reprised their roles, allowing for a richer world of magic.

Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre will air from Monday to Friday at 8:00 PM on GMA Prime and GMA Kapuso Stream.
